What is TraineeTracker About?
TraineeTracker LMS is a powerful, low-risk solution with high degrees of scalability, robustness and flexibility. It has an open architecture patterned after industry standards established by Macromedia, a recognized leader in distance learning technologies and solutions. This open architecture is what permits TraineeTracker to efficiently and cost-effectively adapt its LMS solution to meet a wide variety of industry needs and requirements. TraineeTracker LMS has all the standard LMS tracking and management functions, but accomplishes this without reliance on bulky, expensive or proprietary infrastructures. It works as easily on Windows as it does with Linux, giving us a number of price/performance alternatives when crafting solutions for our customers.

What language is TraineeTracker LMS written in?
TraineeTracker LMS is written in ColdFusion - a Macromedia product that has been available for the last few years as the web scripting engine which Macromedia is basing new data-driven development on.

A few existing big-name LMS's using ColdFusion are:

How do I develop content for TraineeTracker LMS?
Construction is based on simple HTTP web pages.. Any designer can work with this LMS if they can program in HTML. Because TraineeTracker LMS is based on web scripting versus proprietary programming, as little as one line of code is all that is needed to incorporate virtually any form of web content (HTML, XML, Powerpoint, Flash, etc.)

Is testing/assessment part of TraineeTracker LMS or do I need to use a third-party product?
The LMS has its own online assessment tool called TQuizzer for recording Scores etc. to the database, but is also compatible with Macromedia CourseBuilder for practice exercises where there is no need to write to the database. A customer can modify their copy of TraineeTracker to allow Scores created within CourseBuilder to be written to the database. We have one customer doing this.
TQuizzer allow building questions and answers through a web interface that is password protected.
Types of questions are:

  • Multiple Choice
  • True/False
  • Fill-in-the-blank

Is TraineeTracker LMS Compatible with e-Learning standards such as W3C and SCORM?
We are compatible with W3C standards.

When we were planning on converting TraineeTracker into full Open-Source PHP and MySQL, we also planned to add SCORM capabilities. Since making the decision to support Open-Source LMS's Moodle and ILIAS and leave TraineeTracker as ColdFusion only, we will let the Open-Source vendors worry about SCORM compliance. For more details, go to our new sister site (GlobalLiteracy.org).

TraineeTracker courses can be moved to one of our supported SCORM complaint Open-Source LMS's and easily modified to SCORM standards if need be. We can help in the move or do all the moving from TrainingTracker LMS to Moodle/ILIAS LMS.

SCORM is not supported by Moodle and ILIAS at present.  However, ILIAS has SCORM 1.2 and AICC support in their upcoming Version 3 (See ILIAS Software Development Roadmap). Once ILIAS has full SCORM compliance, then by the very nature of the Open-Source GNU license, other Open-Source LMS's can copy the code and use it in their products.  Compare this with proprietary LMS's in which each vendor has to re-invent the wheel for having SCORM compliance. Moodle will have basic support for IMS and SCORM in their upcoming Version 2.

If you can't wait a few months for Moodle and ILIAS to support SCORM, you need to consider one of the proprietary LMS's. There are a number of good ones (start at around $50,000) that are SCORM complaint. Three we are familiar with and can recommend taking a close look at are:
